Cole Tomas Allen, 31, Charged with Attempted Assassination of President Trump

A 31-year-old man from Torrance, California, was formally charged in federal court on Monday with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, along with multiple weapons-related offenses.
Cole Tomas Allen appeared in U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. where he faced one count of attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, transportation of a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.
According to the Department of Justice, the charges relate to a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026, outside the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. Authorities say Allen traveled from California with weapons and attempted to breach security at the high-profile event attended by President Trump and senior administration officials.
Prosecutors stated that Allen made his intentions clear in writings and a alleged manifesto, in which he reportedly referred to himself as the “Friendly Federal Assassin” and listed targets from the Trump administration. FBI Director Kash Patel described the evidence as “abundantly clear,” confirming that Allen’s goal was to assassinate the President and target high-ranking officials.
Secret Service agents acted quickly to neutralize the threat, preventing what could have been a major tragedy. No senior officials were harmed, though reports indicate at least one Secret Service agent was shot during the confrontation.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized: “There is no room in this city for political violence.” The case has sparked widespread concern about rising political violence and the security of public events in the nation’s capital.Allen is currently in custody. If convicted, he could face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty for the assassination attempt charge.
